Ultralights built by Doug Morris

memories refreshed by Gary Rider....

At the first HOPRA Nationals in Kansas City, 1975, Steve Brown won using a Magnatraction that looked just like it (ed note...see Gary Rider's ultralight). We all built them, all of them that I built are below, a couple of them never made it to the track, none of them worked well, I was trying to do too much, make the car super light and get the magnets down there. Looking back I would have been better off cutting less, making the chassis stronger and drop the magnets. You know how it is, sometimes you do so much trick stuff it doesn't work. All with the exception of the partial pan are Magnatraction. The magnets were shimmed in 3 steps and then split to form a flux collector over each rail. I have a loose magnet around here somewhere like that but I couldn't find it. I think the top/center car is the one I ran at the 75 Nationals.
